Mapping the road ahead

In 2023, we launched a bold five-year strategic plan to guide our growth. We built our strategy on four interconnected goals: delivering excellent care, extending our outreach, building strong partnerships, and ensuring the sustainability of our model.

June 2025 marked the midpoint of this five-year plan, and we took the opportunity to reflect on progress made and lessons learned.

 

Reviewing the plan

Our vision has always been clear: no child in Tanzania should live with a treatable disability.

As we continue working towards this goal, we’re adjusting our approach to make sure that we not only reach more children, but that we're doing so in a sustainable, impactful way.

The review was led by our management team. Their recommendations were presented to our Board, who took the time to discuss each one before it was formally approved.

 

Progress and achievements

We’ve made huge strides in providing excellent care to our children

More than ever, Kafika House is a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of children through surgery, rehabilitation, and ongoing support.

Although the global funding crisis has affected our course, we’ve strengthened our operations through improvements in staff capacity, service delivery, and strategic partnerships.

 

Power in partnership

We’ve been working closely with government bodies, local leaders, and healthcare providers to ensure that the services we provide are not only impactful but also aligned with national healthcare priorities.

By deepening these relationships, we can continue expanding our reach and improving our service model.

 

What’s changing?

The challenges we’ve encountered along our way have invited us to adapt our approach.

Funding constraints have meant scaling down our initial expansion plan - so, we decided to use this as an opportunity to take a more data-informed and strategic approach to our growth.

We shifted focus to strengthening our systems, consolidating our efforts, and building a solid foundation for a slower, more deliberate pace of expansion.

 

The road ahead

As we look towards 2027, our priorities are clear: build organisational resilience, leverage the strong partnerships we’ve built to expand our reach.

We will continue to focus on providing high-quality care with a more grounded approach, making sure that every decision we make is backed by data and a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead.
